Analysis and Countermeasures of common faults of frequency converter

with the popularity of frequency converter use, more and more users will encounter the fault of frequency converter alarm tripping in their daily work. In order to help customers better use frequency converter and reduce equipment downtime, we have summarized common faults of down converter and their troubleshooting countermeasures

I. overcurrent

cause: the output current of the frequency converter exceeds the overcurrent detection value (about 200% of the rated current)

solution: check whether there is phase loss or imbalance in the input three-phase power supply

check whether there is phase to phase short circuit or short circuit to ground between the circuits of the motor terminal blocks (U, V, w)

check the motor cable (including phase sequence)

check the encoder cable (including phase sequence)

check whether the motor power matches

check whether there is a power factor correction capacitor or surge absorption device on the motor cable

check whether the electromagnetic switch installed on the output side of the frequency converter malfunctions

check the acceleration time of the frequency converter

check the parameter setting of the frequency converter (motor related parameters)

II. Overload

reason: the output current of the frequency converter exceeds the rated load capacity of the motor or the frequency converter (about 160% of the rated value)

solution: check whether the load is too heavy

check whether the three-phase output of the frequency converter is balanced

check whether there is a power factor correction capacitor or surge absorption device on the motor cable

check whether the electromagnetic switch installed on the output side of the frequency converter malfunctions

check the acceleration time of the frequency converter

check the parameter setting of the frequency converter (motor related parameters)

III. overvoltage

reason: the DC voltage of the intermediate circuit of the 20000 ton inverter replaced by the frequency conversion synthetic rubber is higher than the limit value of overvoltage

solution: check whether the power supply voltage is within the specified range

check whether the deceleration time of the frequency converter is set too short. If it is too short, extend the deceleration time

is the brake unit used correctly

reduce the load inertia or enlarge the capacity of the frequency converter

IV. undervoltage

reason: the DC voltage of the intermediate circuit of the frequency converter is lower than the limit value of undervoltage

solution: check whether the power supply has power failure, instantaneous power failure, main circuit device failure, poor contact, etc.

check whether the power supply voltage is within the specified range

check whether the capacity of the power supply transformer is appropriate

check whether there is a large start vehicle in the system. The material quality determines the service life of the vehicle. Dynamic current load

v. grounding fault

cause: grounding current at the output side of the frequency converter, The setting value of the frequency converter is exceeded

solution: check the insulation of the motor to the ground

check the insulation of the motor cable to the ground

VI. input power supply phase loss

reason: the voltage fluctuation of the DC link of the frequency converter is too large, and the input power supply phase loss or

solution: check the power supply voltage of the frequency converter to see if there is a lack of phase

check whether the imbalance of input three-phase power supply voltage exceeds 4%

check whether the load fluctuation is too large

check whether the three-phase input current of the frequency converter is balanced. If the three-phase voltage is balanced but the current is unbalanced, it is the frequency converter fault, please contact the manufacturer

VII. The formula of output phase loss energy is:

reason: the frequency converter detects that there is no output current in one phase, but there is current in the other two phases

solution: check the motor

check the wiring between the frequency converter and the motor

check whether the three-phase output voltage of the frequency converter is balanced

VIII. Overheating fault

cause: the radiator temperature of the frequency converter exceeds the setting value of the frequency converter

solution: check whether the ambient temperature exceeds the standard

check whether the cooling fan of the frequency converter works normally and whether the cooling air duct is blocked

check the temperature display value of the frequency converter radiator

IX. internal failure of the frequency converter

cause: the internal self inspection of the frequency converter reports that the electronic components are damaged

solution: power off and then on to see if the fault can be reset

if the fault persists, it is the frequency converter that is damaged, please contact the manufacturer
